10 years agoSun Feb 09 2014, 12:26pmAdminA good example the generally bad reputation of italians in WWII have been poor soldiers or even cowards at all isn't correct
were the stuka crews (and btw the torpedo bomber crews as well) of the regia aeronautica. The Tuffatori fought with great
bravery and courage but oftenly lacked support with proper maintenance conditions and poor materials in general.
During the battle for sicily 103? Gruppo Bombardieri a Tuffo (103rd dive bombing group) carried out suicidious bombing raids against the allied
invasion fleet at Gela and Syracuse/Augusta by attacking through a hailstorm of ship AA and being attacked in turn by the allied air cover, resulting in heavy losses near a complete wipe out of the unit.
Some screenshots - representing them in action during the battle of sicily (july 1943) herewith:

Main Admingood looking birds Armin, hard to believe that the Stukas still served in 1943 in the MTO when thinking about the allied air superiority at that time

10 years agoMon Feb 10 2014, 02:45pmAdminThx boelcke, the stukas served in the eastern MTO until november 1943.
I./ and II./StG3 were based in Greece and the Aegean , tasked with
Convoy attacks and supporting the reqonquering of the italian held greek
Islands.
With the fall of 1943 the now called SG3 transferred to the eastern front.
