  • The Zeppelin Lindau C.I was a German single-engine two-seat biplane, designed by Claude Dornier and built by Zeppelin Lindau in World War I. Intended to investigate stressed-skin construction, it had an all-metal fuselage in which the Aluminium alloy skin was load bearing; the wings had aluminium alloy box spars but were fabric covered .

The Zeppelin C I designed from Paul Jaray,(he became the chief design engineer for the aircraft building firm Flugzeugbau Friedrichshafen, designing seaplanes. From 1915 Jaray worked at Luftschiffbau Zeppelin, located in the same town, concentrating on streamlining airships. Jaray designed the airship LZ 120 Bodensee on which airships such as the LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin, the LZ 129 Hindenburg and the LZ-130 were later based.) and built by Zeppelin Luftschiffbau in Friedrichshafen in the Autumn of 1917.

It is less known that Zeppelin also built various types of aircraft. On the one hand, the Zeppelin factories constructed large multi-engine bomber aircraft, on the other hand, lighter double-decker aircraft were manufactured in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance. All types were in common the powerful Maybach MbH luv engines with 240-260 hp. A year and a half after the end of the First World War, in the spring of 1920, a Swiss wholesaler in Friedrichshafen came across 19 brand-new Zepp LZ C-ll aircraft, which were manufactured in late 1918 but were never used. He had the machines dismantled and transported to Central Switzerland via Lake Constance in a secret lightning campaign. In October 1920, the Swiss Army acquired all 19 aircraft, which they transferred to D?bendorf and had assembled there. The robust Zepp aircraft were a welcome addition to the aircraft fleet for the air force and good business for the dealer. The Zepp served primarily as reconnaissance aircraft for long distances and for altitude training of pilots, since they could climb up to 8,500 m. Due to material fatigue, all Zepp machines were retired and liquidated in 1927.
