  • In an effort to find a better torpedo plane, the CT-1 was one of two twin engine monoplanes considered by the USN in 1921 and 1922. Constructed entirely of wood, the CT-1 emerged with a very thick, fully cantilevered wing & a tailplane supported by booms running from the rear of the engine nacelles and the afterbodies of the floats.
The prototype which was constructed in Rockaway, New York was initially flown in March 1921 with two 300HP Wright Hispano V8 engines but was found to be underpowered for its weight.

After substituting 350 Hp Curtiss D-12 engines with two under-wing Lamblin radiators providing cooling, the CT-1 was re-delivered to the USN for testing in 1922.
Once testing was completed the Navy placed an order for eight production CT-1's,however, after a decision was made to procure single engine types in quantity, the contract was cancelled before any further examples had been built.
