40 Sqn SAAF Clipped MkVb's

Author kristorf
Description A pair of 'clipped, cropped and crapped' Spitfire MkVb's flown by No. 40 Squadron South African Air Force out of Tunisia in 1943.

These aircraft were originally fitted with the notorious Vokes Filter (one of 26 modifications needed to allow the Spitfire to 'work' in desert conditions) that reduced performance by approx 5mphh. 103 Maintenance Unit in Aboukir took the aircraft and reworked the filter
to a reasonable size, creating the 'Aboukir' filter that was used to great effect, restoring performance.

Included are WR-R, WR-Z plus one skin with SAAF roundels (orange instead of red centres) and a tail flash only version.

Made with Jaypack's template with layers of weathering, camo schemes etc added by myself
